Gladstone Mater 10th year Anniversary Ball

Mackay patients to benefit from additional special

The Mackay Mater Hospital will soon welcome Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr Michael Cheesman when he commences practice in Mackay on Thursday January 29. Executive Officer of the Mackay Mater Hospital Mr John Nugent said that the arrival of Dr Cheesman is in addition to two private Orthopaedic Surgeons already servicing Mackay patients. “Dr Cheesman has over 15 years experience as a medical practitioner in South Africa,” Mr Nugent said. “He became a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of Republic of South Africa and obtained his Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2005.

New incubator cot provides improved care for babie

The Mackay Mater Hospital has recently acquired a specialised incubator cot for special care newborn babies. Ms Janene Moore, Nurse Coordinator of St Gerard’s Women’s Unit at the Mackay Mater Hospital, said that the $22,700 Drager C2000 Incubator Cot is a welcome addition to the hospital. “The new cot provides up- to- date technology in keeping sick and premature babies in a warm environment, which helps them to adapt to life after birth,” Ms Moore said. “The cot will be used for any newborn baby who requires oxygen therapy or phototherapy and also for any pre-term babies who are too small to control their own temperature.

Mercy Health and Aged Care Celebrate Mercy Day

Mercy Health and Aged Care will celebrate Mercy Day in our Facilities during the week starting 22 September. The original House of Mercy in Baggott Street Dublin was opened on the 24th September 1827 and the work was put under the patronage of our Lady of Mercy. Catherine had decided to use her inheritance to build Baggot Street as a refuge for poor servant girls and homeless women, hence the legacy began. To this day Mercy Day is celebrated throughout the world by the Sisters of Mercy and their Associates on the 24th September each year.
