About the Mackay Mater Hospital

Hospital Entrance PictureThe Mater Misericordiae Hospital Mackay is a member facility of Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland Limited which is owned by the Rockhampton Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy.

Since 1927, the Mater Mackay has provided a high standard of private health care services to the people of Mackay. These services are underpinned by the core values of human dignity, justice, compassion, service and special concern for the poor and the hospital's stated mission to continue the healing ministry of Jesus Christ by providing a high standard of holistic health care consistent with community need.

Over the years, Mater Mackay has enhanced its reputation in Mackay city and surrounding district by keeping up to date with technology and by continuing to offer the highest quality of nursing care. This has been affirmed by consistently achieving accreditation status with the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards since 1985.

A newly opened Hospital (2003) on the northern banks of the Pioneer River offers an integrated health care service to the people of Mackay within a facility planned to offer the latest in technology within a peaceful environment conducive to healing. Besides offering accommodation to 105 inpatients, the Mater Mackay provides an expanded day surgery facility within the hospital theatre complex.

An important feature of Mater Mackay has always been a distinct focus on the pastoral care of patients. This is offered by specially trained personnel and all other staff provide compassionate care which has always been the hallmark of Sisters of Mercy health care facilities and in particular Mater Mackay.
